European Union: Israel's Actions in the West Bank Contradict International Law
SadaNews - The European Union has stated that Israel's recent decision to expand its control over the occupied West Bank is not consistent with international law.
This was stated in a joint statement issued yesterday evening, Wednesday, by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Dubravka Suica, regarding Israel's decision to modify land registration procedures and property ownership in the West Bank.
The European statement indicated that the Israeli decision is "counterproductive" and "contradicts international law".
It clarified that the decision "risks undermining ongoing international efforts aimed at stabilizing the region and advancing peaceful endeavors".
The statement mentioned that the European Union has long upheld a position of not recognizing Israel's sovereignty over the territories occupied since June 1967, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The statement called on all parties to avoid unilateral actions that could escalate tensions and undermine the chances of reaching a negotiated solution.
