The Art That Defeated Geography: Venezuelan Artist Masters Turkish "Ebru" Thousands of Kilometers Away

SadaNews - With precise strokes and deep feelings, Venezuelan artist Paula Victoria Chacon transforms the Turkish art of ebru from a traditional technique into a contemporary creative space, showcasing a talent and beauty that transcends cultures.

Alongside her studies of the Turkish language at the Yunus Emre Cultural Institute in the capital Caracas, Victoria practices the art of ebru (painting on water) thousands of kilometers away from Turkey.

Victoria stated that her main area of specialization is graphic arts, but during her in-depth research into handmade bookbinding and paper decoration, she came across the Yunus Emre Institute in Caracas.

During a special exhibition she opened with the support of the Yunus Emre Cultural Institute, Victoria focused on Turkey's iconic symbols and transferred many famous archaeological landmarks onto her paintings through the art of ebru.

She explained that she introduces Venezuelans to Turkish ebru and guides Turkish language students interested in this art, sharing her knowledge and experiences with them directly.

The Venezuelan artist confirmed that she has had a great passion for visual arts since childhood, noting that her family also recognized this passion and supported her, which allowed her to develop her talent.

Ebru is one of the most beautiful Turkish arts, characterized by painting on water mixed with various materials to make it dense, using special colors that are sprayed and shaped on the surface so that later the painting can be transferred onto special thick marbled paper to withstand water.
