U.S. Army Announces the Death of Two Individuals in Targeting a Vessel in the East Pacific Ocean
SadaNews - The U.S. Army announced on Thursday night - Friday that two individuals suspected of drug trafficking were killed in an airstrike targeting a boat in the East Pacific Ocean, raising the death toll in Washington's campaign against "drug terrorists" to at least 128.
U.S. Southern Command stated in a release on X platform, "Intelligence confirmed that the boat was traversing known drug trafficking routes in the East Pacific and was involved in smuggling operations," adding that "no U.S. personnel were harmed" in the operation.
The administration of President Donald Trump began targeting the alleged smuggling boats in early September, asserting that it is in an actual war with "drug terrorists" operating out of Venezuela. However, it has not provided any concrete evidence of the involvement of these boats in smuggling, sparking intense debate over the legality of its operations in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.
In late last month, the U.S. military executed another raid in the East Pacific that also resulted in the deaths of two individuals suspected of being smugglers. Last week, relatives of two Trinidadian men killed last year in an airstrike on a boat that the U.S. military claimed was transporting drugs filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government for wrongful death.
This is the first case of its kind brought against the Trump administration due to its military operations in the Caribbean.
