Trump expresses support for Japanese Prime Minister before Sunday elections
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his "full support" for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takayichi ahead of the national elections taking place in her country on Sunday, adding that he will meet with her at the White House on March 19.
The first female Prime Minister of Japan, who polls indicate have widespread expectations of a coalition victory, is seeking a public mandate for her spending plans that raise concerns among investors, along with strengthening defense, which might increase tensions with China.
Polls suggest that the Liberal Democratic Party to which Takayichi belongs, along with its partner, the Japan Innovation Party, could secure around 300 seats in the 465-member House of Representatives, representing a significant increase from the slim majority they currently hold.
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social late Thursday into Friday, "Prime Minister Takayichi is a person deserving of great appreciation for the work she and her coalition are doing." He added, "Therefore, as President of the United States, I am honored to offer my full and complete support to her and what her highly respected coalition represents."
