Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv and Trump Talks About Good News
SadaNews - The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was hit by a Russian missile attack early on Tuesday. While U.S. President Donald Trump spoke about some good news, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russia is largely committed to a ceasefire on energy facilities.
The military administration in Kyiv reported damage in several areas due to the wide-ranging Russian attack, while the Ukrainian army activated its defenses in the city's skies, and the mayor of the capital urged residents to remain in shelters.
The head of the military administration of the city, Tymur Tkachinko, wrote on the Telegram platform that several residential buildings, an educational institution, and a commercial building incurred damages in neighborhoods east of the Dnipro River.
For his part, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that Russian missiles and drones are attacking the city located in northeastern Ukraine.
Decline in Attacks on Energy Facilities
On another note, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the number of Russian attacks on energy facilities in his country has decreased, explaining that Russia has not launched any missile or drone strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the past 24 hours.
He said that the cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure confirms that U.S. efforts to continue negotiations to end the war are paying off.
He added: "This is evidence that when the U.S. has the real incentive to change the situation, it can indeed change."
Trump had said last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed - at his request - to suspend attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine.
However, Zelensky noted in his daily televised address that Russian forces continued to bombard Ukrainian sites and logistical supplies, causing damage to power transmission lines and other sites in parts of the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions in southeastern Ukraine.
Good News
Politically, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. administration might announce some good news soon regarding its efforts to end the ongoing war for nearly four years.
Trump told reporters at the White House, "I think we are making good progress with Ukraine and Russia. This is the first time I say that; I think we might be getting some good news."
In this context, Zelensky announced additional bilateral consultations with the United States regarding security guarantees before the anticipated talks in Abu Dhabi to end the war.
He emphasized the importance of continuing to pressure Moscow for a diplomatic solution.
Ukrainian and Russian negotiators had met in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, to discuss the vital issue concerning territories, with no indication of reaching a compromise.
This is the first publicly announced direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv regarding the American plan to end a war that began in February 2022.
