Al-Shara and Barzani Discuss Cooperation to Implement the Damascus Agreement with SDF
SadaNews - Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara discussed with the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, ways to collaborate to contribute to the implementation of the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), during a phone call, according to a statement published by the Syrian Presidency.
The Syrian Presidency mentioned that al-Shara and Barzani discussed the recent developments in Syria.
It added that al-Shara emphasized during the call the commitment of the Syrian state to the national, political, and civil rights of the Kurds.
The Syrian president also stressed that all Syrians are equal before the law and enjoy equal rights.
Support for the Agreement
For his part, Barzani expressed his support for the comprehensive agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF, affirming the necessity of its implementation to ensure the unity and stability of Syria, according to the Presidency's statement.
Both sides during the call emphasized the importance of cooperation and joint coordination to contribute to the implementation of the agreement and achieve stability in Syria and the region.
Ceasefire
The Syrian government announced on Friday an agreement with the SDF for a ceasefire, as part of a comprehensive agreement, with an understanding on a sequenced integration of military and administrative forces between the two sides.
The agreement also stipulates the entry of security forces into the centers of the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli in the northeast of the country, and the state taking control of all civil and governmental institutions, crossings, and outlets.
The goal of the agreement is to unify Syrian territories, enforce the law, and achieve full integration in the region by enhancing cooperation between the concerned parties and unifying efforts to rebuild the country.
On January 18, the Syrian government and the SDF signed an agreement to cease fire and integrate the organization's elements and institutions within the state, but it was followed by renewed clashes, and then a truce was reached that resulted in a comprehensive ceasefire agreement.
The agreement came after a military operation launched by the Syrian army, during which it regained vast areas in the east and northeast of the country, following SDF violations of previous agreements with Damascus.
