SDF Publishes Agreement Text with Damascus
SadaNews - After just a few days following the meeting between Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara and the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi, the SDF published the terms of the agreement reached between them and the Syrian government.
The SDF clarified in a statement today, Friday, that the agreement with Damascus included the integration of its forces into the army in phases, and as part of a sequential process for military and administrative forces between the two sides.
It also noted that the agreement included the withdrawal of military forces from contact points, and the entry of security forces belonging to the Ministry of Interior into the centers of the cities of Hasaka and Qamishli.
The understanding also stipulated the commencement of the integration of Kurdish forces in the region, and the formation of a military division consisting of three brigades from the Syrian Democratic Forces, in addition to the formation of a brigade for the Ayn Arab forces under a unit belonging to Aleppo Province.
The agreement also covered the integration of institutions known as "self-management" into the institutions of the Syrian state with the stabilization of civilian employees.
Additionally, both sides agreed to settle the civil and educational rights of the Kurdish people, and to ensure the return of displaced Kurds to their areas.
The agreement emphasized that its goal is to unify Syrian territories and achieve full integration in the northeastern regions of the country by enhancing cooperation between the concerned parties and unifying efforts to rebuild the country.
Meanwhile, a Syrian official confirmed that the agreement will be implemented immediately.
It is noteworthy that on January 18, following nearly a year of the famous March 10 agreement, which saw Damascus and the SDF exchange accusations of procrastination in implementing its terms, both parties agreed to extend the ceasefire until February 8.
This came after the United States made intensive diplomatic efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire and reach a political solution between the SDF, which was previously Washington's main ally in Syria, and al-Shara, the new ally of the United States.
These developments also followed violent clashes between the SDF and the army that led to the advance of government forces in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, and their control over them, moving towards Hasaka.
