Iraqi's Sharp Response After Zelensky's Call to Attack Iran

SadaNews - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday through a tweet on "X", following the latter's call for Washington to attack Iran, emphasizing that the people of Iran "know well" how to defend themselves and do not need to beg foreigners for help.

Araghchi said addressing Zelensky: "American and European taxpayers are being drained to fill the pockets of his corrupt generals, and to confront what he calls an illegal aggression that violates the United Nations Charter. Meanwhile, he openly and shamelessly calls for an illegal American aggression against Iran, in violation of the very same charter."

He added: "The world is tired of these confused clowns, Mr. Zelensky. Unlike your foreign-backed army burdened with mercenaries, we Iranians know how to defend ourselves and do not need to beg foreigners for help."

Days ago, the Ukrainian president stated that the world should help the Iranians build on protests to effect change to liberate them from "the regime that has brought evils to their country" and other countries, including Ukraine, according to his statement.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that an "American naval fleet" is moving towards Iran but expressed hope that he would not have to use it, reiterating his warnings to Tehran against killing demonstrators or resuming its nuclear program.

U.S. officials said on Thursday that the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and several destroyers equipped with guided missiles will arrive in the Middle East in the coming days.

One official noted that there are also additional air defense systems being considered for deployment to the Middle East, which could be crucial for defense if any Iranian attack occurs on U.S. bases in the region.

The deployment of military assets expands the options available to Trump, whether to enhance the protection of U.S. forces in the region amid current tensions or to take any additional military action following strikes that targeted Iranian nuclear sites in June.

Warships began moving from the Asia-Pacific region last week as tensions escalated between Iran and the United States following the protests that erupted across Iran in recent times.
