The Presidency Condemns the Destruction of the UNRWA Headquarters by Occupation Authorities in Sheikh Jarrah Neighborhood of Occupied Jerusalem
SadaNews - The Palestinian presidency condemned the storming of the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem on Tuesday, and the demolition works carried out, the appropriation of the agency's properties, and the raising of the occupation's flag at its headquarters.
The official spokesperson for the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, warned of the seriousness of these Israeli violations of international and humanitarian norms and laws, which come as part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at eliminating UNRWA and its role in providing basic services to approximately 6 million Palestinian refugees in the camps, holding the Israeli government fully responsible for the serious repercussions of these ongoing attacks.
Abu Rudeineh called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities under international law, to hold the occupation authorities accountable for these actions that violate international law, and to ensure the continuation of UNRWA's work in providing services to Palestinian refugees until their issues are resolved in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
The official spokesperson emphasized the necessity for practical steps from the international community and the United Nations to ensure the continuation of UNRWA's work and to protect relief organizations, their workers, and their facilities, as a genuine response to the Israeli violations that refuse to recognize international legitimacy and international law as a basis for resolving the Palestinian issue.
