Trump Includes Canada in Acquisition List.. Leaks About a Secret Plan

SadaNews: A report published by the American site "Daily Beast" stated that President Donald Trump has recently directed his attention towards Canada, as part of his efforts to enhance American influence and ensure control over the western hemisphere.

The Daily Beast, in a report by its editor Laura Esposito, indicated that this interest stems from Trump's deep concern regarding what he describes as "the weakness of Canadian defenses" in the Arctic, which could open the door for the infiltration of U.S. adversaries, particularly Russia and China.

The site quoted Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, as saying, "The law does not grant nations the right to retain their territory if they are unable to defend it," and the Trump aide dismissed the Danish government and its army, describing them as small.

He mentioned these developments while Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday, signaling efforts to deepen relations between the two countries. Carney became the first Canadian leader to visit China since 2017.

The report outlined the following key points that Trump’s aides view as rational motivations for the acquisition of Canada:

First, the Arctic Gap: Trump sees Canada’s northern border as an "unacceptable" security gap in facing modern threats.

Second, military and logistical movement: There are proposals within the Trump administration to increase U.S. naval patrols and to purchase additional icebreakers to operate in or around Canadian waters. In this regard, the site reported a statement from an American official to NBC, saying, "Ultimately, the goal is to prevent Russia and China from bolstering their presence in the Arctic."

Third, linking Canada and Greenland: Trump’s aides believe that acquiring Greenland would enhance the overall security of the region, including Canada.

Fourth, the logic of "defense capability": The White House adopts a controversial rhetoric stating that countries unable to defend or improve their territories do not have full sovereign rights over them, a logic used to justify pressure on Denmark regarding Greenland and now on Canada.

Canada, with an area of 3.85 million square miles and a population of 40 million, is considered the largest target on Trump’s growing list for potential land acquisition.

The "Daily Beast" reported that it reached out to the White House and representatives of Carney for comment, but without success so far.
