A Presidential Meeting in Yemen with Southern Leaders in Preparation for the Dialogue Conference in Riyadh
SadaNews - Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Abdullah Al-Alimi emphasized the importance of the upcoming Southern Dialogue Conference to be held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the coming days, aiming to reach a vision that meets the aspirations of all Southerners. He asserted that the conference represents an important opportunity, being an inclusive framework that accommodates various Southern components without exclusion.
According to the official news agency "Saba," Al-Alimi stressed during his meeting in Riyadh with Southern leaders who arrived from the temporary capital, Aden, yesterday (Saturday), as part of the preparations for the Southern Dialogue Conference, the importance of "restoring the state's status and its institutions, while maintaining overall stability."
The Presidential Leadership Council member stated, "What is happening does not represent the victory of one party over another, nor is it based on the logic of victor and vanquished, but rather comes within the framework of correcting the course."
For their part, the Southern leaders, including the leaders of the Transitional Council, former Hadhramaut Governor Major General Ahmed Saeed Bin Brik, and the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Muhammad Al-Ghaithi, appreciated the Saudi sponsorship of the conference, describing it as "putting the Southern issue on the right track according to the will of the Southern people."
Southern Consultative Meeting
For his part, Yemeni Presidential Council member Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrami stated today, "In our Southern meeting held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, we affirmed that the national stances regarding the people's issue are steadfast and non-negotiable."
Al-Mahrami, who is a member of the Transitional Council (which announced its dissolution), emphasized the importance of conducting a responsible assessment of the previous phase to correct imbalances and improve performance, while fully adhering to legitimate national rights.
He pointed out that continuous communication with Saudi Arabia represents a strategic option that helps face the challenges of the upcoming phase, affirming the commitment to achieving just objectives with the support of our brothers.
Two weeks ago, Riyadh invited all Southern components in Yemen to participate in a conference hosted by the Kingdom to resolve the Southern issue, in response to a request from Yemeni Presidential Council President Rashad Al-Alimi.
Saba reported yesterday (Saturday) that the authorities, political components, and civil society organizations in Hadhramaut province discussed participating in the Southern Dialogue Conference in a meeting as part of the ongoing preparations for the conference.
Hadhramaut Governor and Presidential Council member Salem Al-Khanbashi emphasized the necessity of unifying Hadhramaut's human rights vision and representing it fairly, appropriate to its political, economic, geographical, and historical status and its legitimate demands.
During a Security Council session on Yemen last Thursday, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg stated that the future of the Southern issue in Yemen cannot be determined by any party alone or imposed by force, emphasizing that the anticipated Southern-Southern dialogue is essential to prepare for a political process under UN sponsorship.
Recently, government forces have taken control of the Southern and Eastern provinces in a notable shift, after having been under the control of the Transitional Council calling for the separation of the South from the North, following its influence in early December on the provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra.
