Quds Electricity Issues Clarification Statement Regarding Power Supply to UNRWA Offices in Jerusalem
SadaNews - The Jerusalem District Electricity Company confirmed on Tuesday that its designated service areas include East Jerusalem, Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Bethlehem, and Jericho, as part of various legal and regulatory frameworks governing its operations in each area.
The company clarified regarding the service area in East Jerusalem that this area is subject to Israeli law by virtue of de facto circumstances, and that the company is legally obliged to comply with the decisions and instructions issued by the competent authorities within the specified time frames.
It stated that failure to comply with these decisions exposes the company to direct criminal penalties under Israeli law, which could jeopardize the company's franchise in East Jerusalem, including the possibility of its revocation and the expulsion of the company from the city, a situation the company seeks to avoid in order to maintain the continued provision of service to its subscribers in the holy city.
It clarified that it has been obliged to implement the decision taken by the Knesset regarding UNRWA from the moment it received it, noting that many of UNRWA's offices in East Jerusalem have already been evacuated and are now unoccupied, with no actual electricity consumption in them; thus, electricity has not been cut off to any occupied offices.
The Jerusalem District Electricity Company affirmed its full commitment to its professional and humanitarian responsibilities, and its keenness to ensure the continued provision of service to citizens within the available capabilities and the legal constraints imposed on it, while adhering to its national role in serving the people of our nation in all its service areas.
