Trump: I Am The One Who Saved NATO!
SadaNews - Amid escalating tensions between Washington and Denmark, a NATO member, regarding Greenland, US President Donald Trump announced that he is "the one who saved NATO."
Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform today, Monday: "I am the one who saved NATO!!!".
"The End of NATO"
On his part, the European Union's Defense Commissioner, Andrius Kubilius, stated that a US forceful takeover of Greenland would mean the end of NATO, and that EU member states are obligated to assist Denmark if it faces "military aggression."
Kubilius also clarified during a security conference in Sweden earlier today: "I agree with the Danish Prime Minister that this would be the end of NATO, and it would have extremely negative effects on people," according to Reuters.
We Will Annex Greenland "One Way or Another"
Trump confirmed yesterday, Sunday, that the United States will annex Greenland "one way or another," saying: "If we don’t take control of it, Russia or China will." He added, "Greenland needs to make a deal, because it does not want to be controlled by Russia or China," noting that "making a deal is the easy part, but we will obtain Greenland one way or another."
Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that any attempt to forcibly take the self-governing and mineral-rich island of Greenland would mean "the end of everything," including the security system that has been in place since the end of World War II.
Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO members, urging them to increase their financial contributions to the alliance's defense budget. He has sometimes downplayed the importance of this alliance to his country.
He also recently boasted that he played a "key role in ensuring the alliance's ability to face regional and international challenges." He considered that Russia does not fear NATO if not for the United States.
Additionally, Trump questioned NATO's readiness to defend America, but at the same time asserted that he would defend NATO.
