Jordanian-European Summit: The Two-State Solution is the Only Path to Resolve the Conflict in the Middle East

SadaNews - A statement issued by the Jordanian-European summit confirmed that the two-state solution is the only path to a just and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East, allowing both states to live side by side in peace and security with mutual recognition, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The statement, issued by the summit held in the Jordanian capital Amman on Thursday, stated that the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip require immediate action.

It called for delivering humanitarian aid quickly, safely, and without obstacles, distributing it sustainably and widely throughout the sector, and allowing the United Nations and its agencies and humanitarian organizations unobstructed access, in accordance with international humanitarian law, while welcoming the humanitarian efforts made by Jordan in this regard.

The statement demanded that Israel urgently release customs revenue and expand the scope of banking correspondence services between Israeli and Palestinian banks, both of which are essential steps to ensure the functioning of the national authority and enable it to provide basic services to citizens.

Jordan and the European Union expressed their deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and strongly rejected and condemned any attempts to annex land and the assaults committed by settlers, including against Christian communities, as well as illegal settlements under international law, unilateral actions, or any expulsion or displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank.

The statement also called on Israel to retract its colonial plan in the "E1" area, which undermines the two-state solution, reiterating their commitment to preserving the historical and legal status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem, including concerning the historical Hashemite custodianship.

Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi confirmed during a press conference on the sidelines of the summit that Jordan and the EU emphasized the necessity of adhering to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, contributing to the protection of civilians and stopping the escalation.

He added that the summit extensively discussed the risks stemming from the continued escalation in the West Bank and the importance of joint efforts to contain tension and prevent further deterioration of the situation.

He continued that the summit affirmed the importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem and the role of custodianship in protecting holy sites.
