Aleppo: Cautious Calm After Clashes Between the Syrian Army and "SDF" with Thousands of Civilians Displaced

SadaNews - The city of Aleppo in northern Syria experienced a cautious calm following violent clashes between the Syrian Army and the Syrian Democratic Forces ("SDF"), which resulted in casualties and the displacement of thousands of civilians.

The wave of displacement continued for the second day, with two humanitarian corridors reopened to facilitate the exit of civilians towards safe areas in the city, according to the "SANA" agency on Thursday morning.

The Aleppo governorate announced a new period for those wishing to leave the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh towards safe areas via the Al-Awaraid and Al-Zuhur street corridors.

In this context, the Syrian Civil Defense reported the evacuation of more than 3,000 civilians, most of them from the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, in response to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions due to ongoing shelling by the "SDF".

Regarding the organization of humanitarian response, Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Ghareeb issued a decision to form the "Central Committee for Aleppo Response" to monitor the situation of displaced persons and ensure their shelter and necessary support, while coordinating directly with government agencies and local and international organizations to ensure unified efforts and enhance the effectiveness of the response.

The governorate also announced the extension of the suspension of classes in public and private schools and universities on Thursday, to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff, while leaving the decision to resume work in other institutions to managers and officials, taking into account security conditions, especially in areas close to clashes.

In order to follow up on the conditions of the displaced, the governor conducted a field tour of the shelter centers accompanied by his deputies Fawaz Halal and Ali Hanoura, to assess the needs of the residents and work on improving shelter conditions, emphasizing that the safety and dignity of citizens remain a priority in all procedures.

Clashes renewed on Wednesday between the Syrian Army and the "SDF" after a period of relative calm, resulting in the death of 4 people and injuries to more than 20 others.

The neighborhoods of Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud saw a movement of displacement through the Al-Awaraid and Al-Zuhur crossings, after the army declared the two neighborhoods a military zone and opened the humanitarian crossings until three o'clock Damascus time.

Heavy clashes and mutual shelling were recorded in the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud frontlines, as well as on the Castello Road and Sheikhhan, without any incursions occurring in the areas of engagement, while the "SDF" targeted the Syrians neighborhood with mortar shells, according to the "SANA" agency.
