PlayStation 5 Hack Is No Longer Impossible After Years of Attempts
SadaNews - Hackers have managed to steal the master keys securing the PlayStation 5 systems, opening the door for them to fully exploit the device after 5 years of resistance against their attempts, according to a report published by the American tech site "Tech Spot".
This hack differs in its working mechanism from previous hacking attempts, as it relies on breaking the hardware protection present in the device, making it much easier to modify and install custom software on it than before.
The report indicates that the vulnerability used by the hackers to steal the device's main security keys is a flaw in the device's hardware itself, which cannot be closed by Japanese company Sony through software updates as has been the custom.
The American security site "The Cybersec Guru" confirmed in a separate report on the vulnerability that it can only be closed by replacing the device's hardware, and this vulnerability is shared across all PlayStation 5 models released before Sony discovered it.
The report notes that the vulnerability requires a physical copy of the game "Star Wars: Racer Revenge," which was released in 2019 on "PlayStation 4", as there is a software glitch in the game that allows hackers to input codes into PlayStation 5 devices.
This vulnerability is over 23 years old, as it first appeared when the game was launched on PlayStation 2.
This situation has caused the price of the game to increase, reaching up to 400 dollars on the "eBay" online store and various market sites, as it cannot be directly accessed from the parent company since it has ceased production.
While gaining access to the main keys securing PlayStation 5 devices is a significant and important step towards fully hacking the device, the specific hacking mechanism has not yet been published, and there is no clear way to replicate the experiment.
