Civil Defense Controls Huge Fire at Iron Factory in Jericho (Photos)
SadaNews - The Palestinian Civil Defense teams managed this morning, Monday, 5/1/2026, to control the massive fire that broke out at an iron factory in Jericho Governorate, with the participation of 200 firefighters and continuous work over 80 hours.
The teams, with support from the security agency, the private sector, and volunteers, succeeded in controlling this fire and containing the damage to approximately 15,000 square meters out of a total of 30,000 square meters.
The accumulation of vehicles and scrap materials at great heights made it difficult to control the flames due to the presence of highly flammable plastic and rubber parts, with flames reaching thousands of tons of stacked materials.
The Civil Defense worked with eight teams from various governorates to control the fire, using hydraulic ladders and special materials for extinguishing such types of fires.
It is noted that the Director-General of the Civil Defense, Major General Akram Thawabteh, has been following the operation to control this fire since its outbreak, accompanied by the Jericho and the Jordan Valley Governor, Dr. Hussein Hamayel, and several directors of the security agency.
The Civil Defense formed a team of public safety engineers and fire investigation experts to investigate the causes of this fire.
