Two Killed in Russian Attacks on Kyiv, Moscow Downs 25 Ukrainian Drones
SadaNews - Russian attacks late Sunday to early Monday resulted in the death of two people in the capital, Kyiv, and its surroundings, according to local authorities, while the Ukrainian military warned that all parts of the country are at risk of missile strikes.
In Kyiv, the head of the military administration, Tymur Tkachchenko, announced via Telegram that one person was killed, noting that a medical facility was attacked, and residents of a building damaged by the strike were evacuated in the Obolon district north of the capital.
Meanwhile, the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, emphasized the air defense forces' response to the attack and urged residents to stay in shelters.
In the vicinity of the capital, the shelling targeted several homes and critical infrastructure, resulting in the death of a man in the town of Fastiv, according to the head of the regional military administration, Mykola Kovalchuk.
These strikes come on the eve of a meeting in Paris of countries allied with Kyiv, aimed at making progress towards resolving the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II.
In preparation for the meeting, security advisors from 15 countries met in Kyiv, with the participation of Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, via remote connection, to discuss the details of the latest version of the plan to end the war with Russia.
Diplomatic tensions have escalated following Moscow's accusations against Kyiv of attempting to target Vladimir Putin's residence with 91 drones in late December, which Kyiv described as a "lie" aimed at paving the way for new attacks and undermining peace efforts, while Trump expressed disbelief that Ukraine orchestrated the strike.
In Moscow, Russian authorities announced the downing of at least 25 drones heading toward the capital, causing disruptions to air traffic at three of the four main airports, with temporary restrictions imposed on incoming and outgoing flights.
Ukraine has faced near-daily Russian assaults since the war began in February 2022, while Kyiv continues launching drone strikes on targets within Russia, as it and its Western allies work to finalize a U.S.-backed plan to end the conflict.
