Colombian President: America Bombed a Cocaine Factory in Venezuela

SadaNews - Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed that the United States carried out a raid on a cocaine factory in the port of Maracaibo in western Venezuela.

Petro wrote on the "X" platform that the American strike targeted a facility belonging to the National Liberation Army (ELN), a rebel group that partially controls the cocaine-producing Catatumbo region along the border with Venezuela.

He explained that the targeted site was used for processing coca paste into cocaine, expressing concern about blending drug enforcement operations with the presence of the armed group in the area.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump had announced that the strike targeted a dock where boats were loaded with drugs, confirming the complete destruction of the site, without specifying its exact location.

The Venezuelan government has not issued any official comment so far, while Washington accuses President Nicolas Maduro of leading a vast drug trafficking network.

Meanwhile, Washington has deployed significant military reinforcements in the Caribbean region.

Caracas views the Trump administration's false drug trafficking accusations as a pretext for overthrowing President Nicolas Maduro and controlling the country's vast oil resources.

Since September of last year, U.S. forces have carried out approximately 30 raids in the Caribbean and Pacific, resulting in the deaths of around 107 people, without providing evidence of the targeted boats' involvement in drug trafficking.

Venezuelan authorities indicate that these accusations fall within the Trump administration's efforts to oust Maduro and take control of the country's oil resources amid significant U.S. military reinforcements in the Caribbean.
