SadaNews - The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced today, Sunday, the death of French cinema icon Brigitte Bardot at the age of 91.
In its statement, it said, "The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with deep sadness and sorrow the passing of its founder and president, Mrs. Brigitte Bardot, the famous actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious artistic career to dedicate her life and efforts to animal advocacy and support her foundation," according to Agence France-Presse.
The statement did not specify the time or place of death.
Macron Describes Her as an 'Icon'
For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron mourned the famous star, writing on the platform "X" this Sunday: "Brigitte Bardot embodied a life of freedom... and a French existence with a global sparkle."
He added, "She touched our hearts... we bid farewell to a legend of this century."
Bardot was born in 1934 in the French capital Paris and participated in nearly 50 films, but she achieved global fame after appearing in the film "And God Created Woman" in 1956.
In 1973, the beauty icon announced her retirement from acting while at the height of her fame, concluding her film career with her last movie, "Don Juan 73."
After retiring, Bardot devoted her life to animal rights advocacy and founded the "Brigitte Bardot Foundation."
Brigitte Bardot is considered an icon of cinema and beauty in the 1950s and 1960s.
