Syria: 5 Dead and 21 Injured in Explosion of Bombs in Mosque in Homs
SadaNews - 5 people were killed and 21 others were injured due to the explosion of bombs inside the "Ali ibn Abi Talib" mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs, Syria, on Friday.
The Syrian News Agency ("SANA") reported that "an explosion occurred inside the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs," noting that "security forces have imposed a security cordon at the site."
It mentioned that "initial information indicates that 3 people were killed and 5 injured due to the explosion at the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib mosque."
Shortly thereafter, the agency quoted Syrian health authorities confirming "5 deaths and 21 injuries in an initial toll due to the explosion at the Ali ibn Abi Talib mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs province."
Reports mentioned that the explosion resulted from a bomb in the mosque.
"Reuters" quoted Syrian officials as saying that "the Homs explosion could be the result of a suicide attack or explosives planted in the mosque."
The media director in Homs stated that "the explosion inside the mosque was caused by a bomb."
"SANA" also quoted a security source stating that "initial investigations indicate that the explosion in the mosque in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs was due to bombs."
