Three People Killed Including Two Police Officers in Moscow Explosion
SadaNews - An explosion late Tuesday-Wednesday in the Yeltsinskaya neighborhood south of Moscow resulted in the deaths of two traffic police officers and a suspect they were trying to detain, according to the Russian Investigative Committee on Wednesday.
The committee explained that the explosion was triggered by an explosive device that detonated as the officers approached the individual, leading to the deaths of the officers from their injuries, along with the suspect. The committee has opened an investigation into the "attempted murder" of law enforcement officers and "smuggling explosives."
The explosion occurred near the site where General Vanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, was killed in a similar incident, where an explosive device was placed under his car.
A tight security cordon was enforced in the area following the incident, according to images broadcast by Russian television and eyewitness accounts, with the explosion occurring around 1:30 AM Moscow time.
In a related context, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency announced temporary restrictions on air traffic at the airports of Ufa and Orsk.
This comes as Russian missiles killed and injured civilians in the Kherson and Donetsk regions of southern Ukraine, while the capital Kyiv declared an air alert amid the ongoing conflict and escalating attacks within Russian and Ukrainian territories since the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022.
