Ben Gvir Pins a Noose: Execution Can Be Implemented by Electric Chair or Lethal Injection
SadaNews - Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and members of his party wore noose pins on their clothes as they entered a meeting of the National Security Committee in the Knesset, where a bill proposing the execution of Palestinian prisoners will be discussed. Knesset members expressed their disgust at this provocation, and human rights organizations along with the head of the doctors' union confirmed their opposition to the fascist bill.
Ben Gvir considered that "we all came with this pin, which is one of the options through which we implement the death penalty law. Of course, there is the possibility of hanging, there is the electric chair, and there is also the option of anaesthesia. Since it was announced that doctors do not want to help in this matter, I have received 100 approaches from doctors who said, ‘Itamar, you just have to tell us when.’
Knesset member Merav Ben-Ari, from the 'Yesh Atid' party, criticized Ben Gvir's presence and the presence of Knesset members from his party with this pin, and wrote on the 'X' platform addressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating, "Look at what you have brought into the Knesset, and I assume you will not publish this in English video clips. Personally, how disgusting, what crazies have entered the House of Representatives, the stronghold of Israeli democracy."
Yair Golan, head of the 'Democrats' party, wrote that "a noose pin on the collar is a sick joke. Ben Gvir is a disgrace to Judaism and Zionism. Netanyahu is the one who legitimized this anti-Zionist man."
Ben Gvir bragged about starving Palestinian prisoners and preventing them from purchasing food and cooking in their cells, claiming, "I do not intend to apologize for one thing, which is that we stopped the summer camps that were here, after decades of abuse, tours in the yard, gourmet food lists, bread, cosmetic treatments."
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel responded, emphasizing its opposition to the death penalty, stating that "the death penalty contradicts the core values of the sanctity of life and human dignity. The value of life is a lofty value, and there is no interest that outweighs it and justifies the taking of life, neither as a punitive nor as a deterrent measure. The human right to life is a right in itself, not related to anything, and the state is not allowed to license life and use it as a means of sending a message to threaten others."
Professor Hagai Levin, head of the public health doctors' union, stated that "research around the world shows that the death penalty harms public health. Examine how the introduction of the death penalty affects violence in the state, and how it can increase murder cases."
Ben Gvir responded to Levin's statements by saying, "You care about the troublemakers. If I were the health minister, I would interrogate you. Your title of professor should be revoked."
It is noted that the Shin Bet changed its position against the death penalty after David Zini was appointed head of the agency, but contrary to Ben Gvir's position, the Shin Bet does not support automatic execution of the death penalty, and that the Shin Bet should be able to provide an opinion before the sentence is carried out, and the court should be able to weigh the opinion.
A representative of the Shin Bet claimed that the change in the agency's position on the death penalty law is due to the fact that the Shin Bet does not fear an uproar in the Gaza Strip or the prisoners organizing themselves inside the prisons, and that Hamas's strength is not being strengthened in occupied Jerusalem.
