Cairo Affirms Its Commitment: We Continue Efforts to Stabilize the Ceasefire in Gaza

SadaNews - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdul Aty affirmed on Saturday his country's commitment to continue its efforts with various regional and international parties to stabilize the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and support a pathway leading to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Abdul Aty, during his participation in a session titled "Holding Gaza Accountable: Reassessing Global Responsibilities and Pathways to Peace," stated that "stabilizing the ceasefire represents a top priority, as it is a necessary gateway for an organized transition to the second phase of President Trump's peace plan," according to the "Associated Press."

He explained that this phase requires adequate and unhindered humanitarian aid delivery, as well as initiating early recovery and reconstruction efforts to alleviate suffering and restore hope for the residents of the Strip.

The Egyptian minister also pointed out that "implementing Security Council Resolution 2803 remains pivotal, particularly concerning the role of the International Stability Force as a peacekeeping force," emphasizing that this force, along with the Palestinian technocratic committee and the International Peace Council, are temporary arrangements that pave the way for the Palestinian Authority to fully resume its duties within a geographical connection between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Abdul Aty stressed that the Rafah crossing operates continuously from the Egyptian side, and that the problem lies with the Israeli side, which closes the crossing on its end, in addition to controlling five other crossings linking it to the Gaza Strip for which it bears the responsibility of opening.

He noted that President Donald Trump's plan stipulates the reopening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, not just using it in one direction, or using it as a gateway for the displacement of Palestinians from their land, or linking it to any arrangements affecting the Palestinian presence in the Strip.

The minister Abdul Aty also warned about the dangerous situation in the West Bank, amid rising settler violence and ongoing land confiscation, asserting that this situation requires urgent international intervention to stop the violations and prevent the escalation of tensions.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the session addressed the responsibilities of the international community toward the Gaza Strip and ways to advance efforts aimed at achieving a fair and comprehensive peace.
