Aoun Calls on Security Council Delegation to Pressure Israel to Implement Ceasefire Agreement and Withdraw
SadaNews - On Friday, the Lebanese presidency stated that President Joseph Aoun met with a delegation of ambassadors and representatives from the Security Council visiting the country, where he called for support for the Lebanese army in completing its work and to pressure Israel to withdraw from the south.
The presidency mentioned in a statement on the "X" platform that the Security Council delegation "expressed its support for stability in Lebanon by implementing international resolutions, and the countries' readiness to assist in supporting the Lebanese army and completing its deployment and the exclusivity of arms."
The statement added that Aoun emphasized during the meeting Lebanon's commitment to implementing international resolutions, saying: "We need to push the Israeli side to implement the ceasefire and withdraw, and we look forward to pressure from your side."
A truce was reached between Israel and the "Hezbollah" group in November of last year, mediated by the United States, following over a year of mutual shelling ignited by the conflict in the Gaza Strip. However, Israel still controls areas in southern Lebanon despite the agreement and continues to launch attacks in the east and south of the country.
