Overcoming Disputes is the Focus of Macron and Xi's Meeting in Beijing
SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday, in a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, at a time when the European Union is preparing to tighten its trade rules with China.
During the talks, the Chinese president called for establishing a "more stable" relationship with Paris, affirming his country's readiness to work with France to "prevent any interference" and to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
For his part, Macron emphasized the importance of overcoming differences between the two sides, saying: "Sometimes there are disagreements, but it is our responsibility to overcome them for the common good."
Macron's visit, which lasts for three days, includes a stop in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Friday, accompanied by the Chinese president, which is a rare gesture as Xi rarely joins foreign leaders outside the capital.
The issue of Ukraine topped the agenda of the discussions, where Macron confirmed that cooperation with China to end the war is "critical," pointing out the necessity of continuing joint efforts to support peace and stability in Ukraine and in conflict regions around the world.
The French president also called for enhancing investments and rebalancing trade relations between Europe and China, urging Beijing to work with G7 countries towards a rules-based global economic system.
