Teenagers Prefer Talking to Chatbots Over Humans
SadaNews - A new poll has revealed that teenagers prefer talking to chatbots over humans because they find them faster, more enjoyable, and easier to engage in discussions.
According to the British newspaper "The Independent," the survey conducted by YouGov included 5,035 teenagers in England aged between 11 and 18.
More than three-quarters of the respondents reported spending most of their free time in front of screens, with nearly half of them (48 percent) spending the majority of their leisure time in their bedrooms.
About 4 in 10 participants indicated that they had used artificial intelligence for advice, support, or companionship, preferring to talk to it rather than to humans.
The main reason for this preference was the participants' feeling that it was faster (51 percent), while other reasons given were that it was enjoyable (35 percent) and easier than talking to a real person (19 percent).
About 9 percent said they used artificial intelligence because they felt they were talking to an adult, while 6 percent mentioned they found no one else to talk to, and another 6 percent stated they trusted artificial intelligence more than humans.
Experts overseeing the survey warned that while artificial intelligence will become an increasing part of society, it should not come at the expense of "rich human interaction."
They added: "Although artificial intelligence may provide support, it cannot replace the empathy and understanding that come from real, personal support."
