30 People Killed in Landslides in Indonesia
SadaNews - The agency responsible for dealing with the consequences of disasters in Indonesia reported that the death toll from the landslides in two regions in Central Java has risen to 30 amid continued rescue efforts.
The agency added that about 21 people are still missing after heavy rains caused landslides in the city of Cilacap last week and in the Banjarnegara area earlier this week, according to Reuters.
The spokesperson for the agency stated in a statement last night that rescuers found seven additional bodies yesterday in Banjarnegara, the most affected area, raising the death toll to ten, while 18 people are still missing.
The spokesperson added that damage has affected dozens of homes, seven people have been injured, and more than 900 residents have been evacuated following the landslide.
He explained that at least 700 rescuers, including police and military personnel, are continuing to search for the missing using excavators to speed up the search efforts.
The spokesperson mentioned that rescue teams in Cilacap found four other bodies during the current week, raising the death toll to 20, with three still missing.
Authorities have extended the search operations there until next week, and about 400 residents have been evacuated.
