Casualties and Injuries Following Russian Attack on Ukraine

SadaNews - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today, Wednesday, that 9 people have died and dozens have been injured in attacks launched by Russia, which claimed to have destroyed 65 Ukrainian drones alongside 4 American-made "Atakmz" missiles over Voronezh region during the past night.

Zelensky stated that a Russian attack last night resulted in the death of 9 individuals and left dozens injured, causing damage to energy and transport infrastructure, as well as targeting multi-storey residential buildings in Ternopil.

He added, "Every brazen attack against normal life shows that pressure on Russia is insufficient. Effective sanctions and support for Ukraine can change this situation." He called on allies to provide his country with air defense missiles.

Zelensky continued by stating that Russia used more than 470 drones and 48 missiles in the attack.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian media and eyewitnesses reported that a series of explosions were heard in the cities of Lviv and Ternopil (western Ukraine) following a warning from the Ukrainian military about potential Russian attacks using missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy stated via Telegram that "Russia is once again attacking the energy infrastructure in our country." It added that "emergency power outages occurred in areas across Ukraine."

Local administration in the Kherson region reported that more than 30 towns in the area faced attacks from drones, air strikes, and artillery shelling, including the city of Kherson and other areas on both banks of the Dnipro River, confirming that the shelling hit vital infrastructure and residential areas.

In the Kharkiv region, local authorities announced that at least 36 civilians, including children, were injured during an intensive night attack carried out by Russian drones in the eastern part of the country, marking the third consecutive night of targeting.

The local administration noted that about 19 Russian drones targeted neighborhoods in Kharkiv, causing widespread fires and significant damage to civil infrastructure. It added that the attack caused damage to over 10 residential buildings, a school, a supermarket, and a first aid station, among other locations.

In Zaporizhia, authorities reported civilian injuries from an intense Russian attack. The military administration stated that Russian forces carried out around 700 strikes on 21 towns in the region in recent hours.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces announced the thwarting of approximately 50 attacks carried out by Russian troops in the Pokrovsk region of Donetsk in the eastern part of the country.

For its part, Russian military sites reported the beginning of a Russian incursion into the city of Siversk in the northern part of the region after breaching Ukrainian army defenses south and east of the city.

The Russian news agency reported today, citing the Ministry of Defense, that Russian air defense units destroyed 65 Ukrainian drones during the previous night.

Alert

On Wednesday morning, all across Ukraine was on high alert due to air raids, with authorities in several western cities issuing warnings to residents.

Lviv Governor Andriy Sadovyi said in a message via Telegram: "The enemy is targeting western Ukraine with drones. Do not ignore the alert! Stay in shelters." He added, addressing the residents of Lviv, "Do not post any photos, videos, or locations. Maintain a media silence!".

The Ministry of Energy indicated that Russian attacks led to emergency power outages in several areas.

As winter approaches, Moscow has intensified its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. In return, Kyiv regularly targets warehouses, oil refineries, and other energy facilities in Russia.

In October of last year, Moscow launched its largest bombing campaign on Ukrainian gas facilities since the beginning of the war in 2022.

Facing yet another harsh winter and with no signs of peace talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is on a European tour in an effort to garner support for his army and bolster energy infrastructure.
