Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine result in casualties, fires, and gas pipeline explosion in Omsk

SadaNews - A Russian missile strike resulted in the death of a girl and injured at least nine others in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, according to local authorities early Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported an incident in an underground section of a gas pipeline in the city of Omsk, south of the country.

Russian local media reported that the incident caused a loud explosion and a fire whose flames could be seen from kilometers away.

Sources confirmed that the incident did not result in injuries and suggested it was likely caused by a gas leak.

The regional governor, Vitaly Khotsenko, stated early Tuesday morning via Telegram that emergency services are dealing with the incident, adding, "There is no danger to the residents of the Omsk region or any other areas in our region."

In Ukraine, the regional governor Oleg Synegubov wrote on Telegram, "The enemy launched missile strikes on the city of Barvinkove, and a 17-year-old girl died after sustaining serious injuries in the hospital."

He added, "As of now, there are nine injured, seven of whom were transferred to the hospital," noting that emergency services are present at the scene.

In the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Vladislav Haivenenko reported "fires" in Dnipro linked to a drone attack, but without mentioning any possible deaths or injuries.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has targeted the country almost daily with drones and missiles. On Monday, Russian airstrikes in the Kharkiv region resulted in at least five fatalities and extensive damage to residential areas, including a kindergarten, according to local authorities.

With winter approaching, Moscow has intensified its strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. For its part, Kyiv regularly targets warehouses, oil refineries, and other energy facilities in Russia.

On the front line, the Russian army, which outnumbers and outarms Ukrainian forces, continues its advance eastward, announcing on Monday the control of three new villages in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a "Declaration of Intent" at an airbase near Paris on Monday, paving the way for Ukraine to purchase French "Rafale" fighter jets, potentially numbering around one hundred, along with air defense systems, marking a first of its kind for Kyiv.
