Iran Calls on United Nations to Hold America and Israel Accountable for Attacks on Its Nuclear Sites

SadaNews - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the United Nations to impose "appropriate measures" on the United States and Israel due to the military strikes they carried out in June against Iranian nuclear sites.

Araghchi stated that President Donald Trump and other American officials bear "criminal responsibility" for the strikes following Trump's statement last week that he directed the first Israeli attack on Iran on June 13.

He added in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council that Israel and the United States should be held liable for damages, including restitution and compensation for the harm inflicted on Iran.

Trump told reporters on November 6 that he is "largely responsible" for the first Israeli strike on Iran.

Araghchi indicated that Trump's comments are clear evidence of US control during the 12-day air war between Iran and Israel, which Iranian state media reports killed more than 900 people, including Iranian military officials.

Araghchi stated, "This certainly does not exempt all individuals from individual criminal responsibility, including those within the Israeli entity who participated in committing war crimes whether by command, order, execution, assistance, or facilitation."

The call for UN action contrasts with recent calls from American and Iranian leaders for a resolution to the decades-long conflict.

Earlier this week, Araghchi's deputy stated that Tehran seeks to reach a peaceful nuclear agreement with the United States.

Trump said last month that the United States is ready to conclude an agreement with Iran when Tehran is ready, adding that "the hand of friendship and cooperation is extended."
