Israeli Security Sources: High Orders Make Law Enforcement on Settlers in the West Bank Difficult
Translation by SadaNews - Israeli security sources stated this evening, Wednesday, that the ability to enforce the law against settlers is limited, and that this is a "top-down policy" making it difficult for officials to enforce the law and act against them, according to what the Hebrew Channel Reshet Kan reported.
The channel also reported, as translated by SadaNews, that despite the seriousness of the incident that occurred yesterday in the West Bank, no condemnation statement has yet been issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Defense Minister Israel Katz.
The same sources said that if there is no change in policy, it will only be a matter of time before Palestinians are killed as a result of the unrest, which may exacerbate the security situation in the West Bank.
The channel noted that there are large groups of settlers present in the West Bank, especially in settlement outposts, and in the past two years, the number of outposts and settlement farms has quadrupled compared to before the war, where their number was 30, and it has now reached 120.
These farms are mainly inhabited by young men and herders from the settlers, and most of them are very close to Palestinian villages.
According to Israeli security sources, these places are key points of friction between the two sides.
The channel indicated that there were no intelligence warnings received in time before the violent incident in Tulkarem yesterday, and the Shabak did not provide preventive intelligence on any other incidents.
It pointed out that the security bodies, whether police, army, or Shabak, each side blames the other for the responsibility for those events and for not investigating them or bringing the perpetrators to justice.
