Allegations of Assassinating an Israeli Diplomat Ignite a Three-Way Crisis between Iran, America, and Mexico

SadaNews - On Monday, Iran rejected U.S. allegations that Tehran was plotting to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, deeming them "ridiculous."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei stated, "We found this claim to be extremely absurd," framing it as part of Washington's efforts "to destroy Iran's friendly relations with other countries."

Following Washington's allegation on Friday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry thanked Mexican authorities for "disrupting a terrorist network run by Iran." However, the Mexican Foreign Ministry later stated that it had "not received any information" regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Iranian embassy in Mexico described the accusations as "media fabrications and a big lie."

An unnamed U.S. official stated that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard began weaving the threads of a plot that was foiled this year to target Ambassador Einat Kranz Naiger at the end of 2024.

The alleged plot involves recruiting agents through the Iranian embassy in Venezuela, whose leftist president, Nicolas Maduro, is allied with Iran.

Baqaei stated on Monday that "the whole issue is fabricated."

In mid-June, Israel launched an unprecedented attack on Iran, igniting a 12-day war, which the United States joined temporarily by carrying out strikes against Iranian nuclear sites.

A ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel was reached on June 24.
