South Korea: High Likelihood of a Meeting Between Trump and Kim Jong Un Next Week
SadaNews - The South Korean Minister of Unification indicated today (Friday) a "high" possibility of a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next week.
Chung Dong-young told reporters that North Korea "is paying attention to the United States," speaking about "multiple signals... indicating a strong likelihood of a meeting. "
The South Korean minister predicted that this meeting would take place on the sidelines of the scheduled visit of the U.S. President to South Korea on Wednesday, to participate in a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, according to the French Press Agency.
U.S. media reported that officials from the Trump administration discussed privately arranging a meeting between him and Kim, noting that their last meeting was during Trump’s first term in 2019.
Trump has previously expressed his desire to meet Kim again, noting the possibility that this could happen within this year.
The previous meetings between them took place in June 2018 in Singapore, in February 2019 in Vietnam, and in June of the same year at the border between the two Koreas.
In September of last year, Kim stated that he is willing to communicate with Washington again, speaking of "good memories" about Donald Trump, provided that the United States abandons its efforts to prevent his country from possessing a nuclear bomb.
