The White House: Trump Will Attend a Bilateral Meeting with Xi Jinping Next Thursday
SadaNews - The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea next Thursday, local time.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated on Thursday evening that Trump will attend a bilateral meeting with Xi in the morning before returning by air to Washington in the evening.
According to the spokesperson, prior to traveling to South Korea, Trump will fly to Malaysia and Japan, adding that Trump will begin his trip to Asia late on Friday.
Trump later expressed hope that the meeting would yield a positive outcome for the United States, according to the "German News Agency."
The U.S. President told reporters: "The first question I will ask him will be about fentanyl." Trump has long accused China of being partially responsible for the fentanyl crisis in the United States. Fentanyl is a powerful opioid painkiller and synthetic drug that causes severe addiction.
Trump and Xi had planned to meet on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, which begins on October 31, but no public date has been announced. China has not yet confirmed the meeting between Xi and Trump.
