Sanai Takaitchi.. The First Woman to Win the Leadership of the Japanese Government
SadaNews - The Japanese House of Representatives elected today, Tuesday, Sanai Takaitchi, the leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, to assume the position of Prime Minister.
Takaitchi received 237 votes, exceeding the majority in the council's total seats of 465, paving the way for her to be inaugurated as the country's first female Prime Minister later today.
This vote comes a day after her struggling party secured a coalition agreement with a new partner, which is expected to shift her ruling bloc further to the right.
Takaitchi will succeed Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, ending a political void that lasted three months following the Liberal Democratic Party's disastrous defeat in the July elections.
Ishiba, who has only held his position for a year, resigned along with his government earlier on Tuesday, paving the way for his successor.
Earlier, Takaitchi stated, "Political stability is essential at this stage. Without it, we cannot implement measures for a strong economy or effective diplomacy."
