Syrian Foreign Ministry: Al-Shara' Urged Russia to Hand Over Bashar Al-Assad

SadaNews - The Deputy Director of the Russia and Eastern Europe Department at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ashhad Salibi, stated that President Ahmad Al-Shara' clearly asked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their meeting for the delivery of "the wanted Bashar Al-Assad,” as he expressed.

Salibi explained in an interview with Syrian media last Friday night that the Russian side showed a clear understanding of achieving transitional justice in Syria, noting that President Al-Shara's visit to Russia aimed to emphasize the restoration of coordination and cooperation with all countries.

He added that Syria is nearing the reformation of its foreign policy in alignment with its national interests, pointing out that Syria is working to solidify its relationships with all countries and the international community.

He pointed out that the new political leadership relies on the principle of transparency in handling the Russia file, with a commitment to keep the Syrian people informed of all updates, adding that all agreements between Damascus and Moscow will be rephrased to ensure the supreme interest of the Syrian people.

Salibi clarified that the discussions between the two sides included setting up new legal mechanisms for cooperation concerning wanted lists and unresolved issues, in addition to supporting the Syrian position in international forums, emphasizing the continued coordination with Moscow in the Security Council and the United Nations to enhance Syria's presence and support its strategic interests.

President Al-Shara' arrived last Wednesday in the Russian capital Moscow on an official visit to meet Russian counterpart Putin and discuss joint files between the two countries.

The visit centered around the bilateral relations between Syria and Russia, regional and international developments of mutual interest, along with discussions covering political and economic aspects and reconstruction files.

It is noteworthy that former Syrian President Bashar fled to Russia after armed factions took control of the authority last December.
