Russian Attack on Ukraine
SadaNews - Russian forces launched a new attack on the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, early Tuesday, resulting in four injuries and partial power outages in several areas of the city.
The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, stated that Russia used guided bombs in the attack targeting residential areas, causing damage to infrastructure and a power outage in three of the city's nine districts, in addition to affecting a medical facility.
He explained that emergency teams are working to fix the faults and gradually restore electricity.
Kharkiv is located about 20 kilometers from the Russian border and has witnessed repeated drone and missile attacks for months as part of the ongoing war between the two countries for more than three and a half years.
Politically, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he will head to Washington this week to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and several officials from the defense and energy sectors.
Zelensky said during a press conference in Kyiv alongside European Union foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas: "I will meet President Trump in Washington this week, and we will discuss a range of joint measures and proposals," without revealing details, expressing hope for the meeting to take place next Friday.
Zelensky also clarified that he will hold meetings with U.S. military companies and members of Congress, noting that air defense will be the foremost topic in his discussions, alongside cooperation in the energy sector.
The Ukrainian president expressed his gratitude to Trump, praising the "constructive dialogue and ongoing support" from Washington, noting that he recently had two phone calls with the U.S. president to discuss "Ukraine's capabilities for long-range strikes."
Kyiv is seeking to acquire U.S.-made "Tomahawk" missiles capable of striking targets within Russia and asserts that they will only be used against military targets.
For its part, Moscow warned that supplying Ukraine with these missiles would constitute a serious escalation, while Trump stated that he is considering sending them if Russia does not end the war, while also indicating the possibility of having a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding this matter.
