200 American soldiers will supervise the implementation of the Gaza agreement and expand the scope of 'Humanitarian Gaza' operations
SadaNews - American officials said on Thursday-Friday that the United States will send about 200 soldiers to Israel to help support and monitor the ceasefire agreement in Gaza as part of a team that includes partner countries, NGOs, and private sector entities.
A senior official told reporters that Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the U.S. Central Command, "will initially have two hundred people on the ground. His role will be to supervise, monitor, and ensure that there are no violations."
He added that military officials from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and possibly also the UAE would be attached to the team, while a second senior American official stated that "there is no intention to send any American troops into Gaza."
Officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss undisclosed details, explained that the U.S. Central Command will establish a "Civil-Military Coordination Center" in Israel that would help facilitate the flow of humanitarian assistance as well as logistical and security aid to the war-torn territories.
U.S. envoys Steve Wittyckoff and Jared Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night to ensure the implementation of the Trump plan.
In a related context, the American newspaper "Washington Post" reported that the "Humanitarian Gaza Foundation," supported by the U.S. and Israel, is preparing to establish a new site for distributing aid in the northern Gaza Strip, and that it has not been asked to reduce its operations.
The newspaper quoted a source familiar with the foundation's operations as stating that its workers have not been asked to scale back their activities, adding that even if the foundation’s operations were ultimately dismantled, the distribution efforts by the United Nations and other NGOs would take some time to regain momentum, due to the destruction of many of their facilities in Gaza.
The foundation announced in a statement that relief operations continue unabated amid ceasefire negotiations.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated in an interview with the (Haaretz) newspaper that he does not envision the "Humanitarian Gaza Foundation" being shut down as part of implementing President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan.
