
President Abbas Welcomes Trump's New Announcement Regarding Hamas's Response and Affirms Palestine's Future Role
SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to cease hostilities and move forward with the details, in response to the positive statements from Hamas which we welcome regarding the release of all hostages and positively engaging in this phase that requires everyone to demonstrate the highest levels of national responsibility.
President Abbas reiterated his appreciation for the significant efforts made by President Trump to end the war in Gaza, moving towards a lasting peace, and extending thanks to the Arab and Islamic countries that are exerting efforts in this regard (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan).
He affirmed the readiness of the State of Palestine to work constructively with U.S. President Trump from this moment onward, and with all concerned partners, the joint presidency of the international peace conference in New York, the heads of working groups, the Arab member on the Security Council from Algeria, and all Security Council members and General Assembly members, in order to achieve stability and a lasting and just peace in accordance with international legitimacy.
President Abbas emphasized by saying, "What matters to us now is the immediate commitment to a complete ceasefire, the release of all hostages and prisoners, the introduction of urgent humanitarian assistance through UN organizations, ensuring no displacement or annexation occurs, and beginning the reconstruction process."
In this context, the President stated, "The sovereignty over the Gaza Strip belongs to the State of Palestine, and the connection between the West Bank and Gaza must be through Palestinian laws and governmental institutions, by means of a Palestinian administrative committee and unified Palestinian security forces, within a framework of a single system and law, supported by Arab and international backing."
He added, "We will continue to work with concerned mediators and partners to ensure the success of these efforts, leading to a permanent peace that ends the Israeli occupation of the territory of the State of Palestine and its capital, East Jerusalem."
He reminded the "international community of its responsibility to obligate Israel to cease all its unilateral actions that violate international law, foremost among them the cessation of settlement activities, settler terrorism, attacks on sacred sites, and the withholding of Palestinian tax funds."
He affirmed that the independent, sovereign Palestinian state is the natural partner for stability in the region alongside the State of Israel, and it is time for a lasting peace that guarantees security and justice for all peoples in the region.
