"Prisoners' Authority": Detainees in Negev Prison Suffer Difficult Conditions and Repeated Assaults

SadaNews - The Prisoners and Released Persons Authority stated after its lawyer's visit to Negev Prison that it recorded a series of violations and restrictions faced by the detainees. Many of them suffer from difficult health conditions due to medical neglect and repeated assaults, in addition to the policy of administrative detention and continuous extensions.

The authority explained that among the detainees suffering from difficult health conditions is Hassan Shakir Jalaiteh (36 years old) from Jericho, who was arrested on 16/11/2023 after a raid on his commercial store in the city center, during which live ammunition was fired at him and his brother before their arrest. An administrative detention order was issued against him, renewed four times with six months each time, totaling 24 months, ending on 12/11/2025.

It indicated that he suffers from an injury in his right leg that causes him pain in the knee and back, in addition to severe vision loss in his right eye due to severe beating when he was transferred from Ofer Prison to Negev.

Detainee Jalaiteh described the overall situation in the prison as "extremely miserable," as the prison administration has intensified its procedures by confiscating blankets and quantities of clothing, and seizing food. He also confirmed that prisoners are subjected to beating during transfers to lawyer rooms, and that the repeated incursions continue unabated.

As for detainee Alaa al-Din Ghali Abdoody (48 years old) from Tulkarem, he has been detained since 01/02/2020 and sentenced to 8 years in prison. He suffers from chronic heart problems since 2012 and underwent two catheterization procedures before his arrest. Despite the decrease in his heart muscle efficiency to 46% before detention, he does not receive any treatment or medical follow-up in prison. He is also suffering from scabies and has severe skin boils, while the prison administration has denied him a stomach medication that eased his suffering.

The authority also addressed the case of detainee Hamza Mahmoud Abu al-Hasan (26 years old) from Jenin, who was arrested on his wedding day on 25/01/2024 and is currently under administrative detention, which has been renewed several times. A "substantive order" was issued in the last extension, and he is supposed to be released on 20/01/2026.

The lawyer also visited detainee Nour al-Din Abdul Rahim (23 years old), who has been held since 09/06/2024 under administrative detention, having spent 17 months so far without any charges or trial.

The Prisoners Authority emphasized that what is happening in Negev Prison reflects a systematic policy aimed at breaking the will of the detainees through medical neglect, continuous restrictions, and repeated assaults, indicating the urgent need for intervention to stop these violations and ensure the humanitarian and health rights of the prisoners.
