
Qatari Prime Minister Meets Trump and US Officials Following Israeli Attack on Doha
SadaNews - The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, met with US President Donald Trump in New York on Friday.
Media reports cited a "source familiar with the meeting" stating that "discussions focused on Qatar's role as a mediator in the region and defense cooperation" following the Israeli aggression against Hamas leaders in Doha.
According to the source, "the meeting lasted for two hours and discussed several files, and it was very positive". The US envoy, Steve Witteck, attended the meeting, according to NewsNation.
On his part, Hamad Al-Muftah, Deputy Chief of Qatar's mission in Washington, wrote on X, "A wonderful dinner with the US President. Just concluded".
The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed during his meeting with the US Vice President and Secretary of State that Doha "will take all necessary measures to protect its security and maintain its sovereignty in light of the blatant Israeli attack". For his part, the US Vice President expressed "solidarity" with Qatar, describing it as a "trusted ally".
The Qatari Foreign Ministry also stated in a statement that the meeting reviewed "the close strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States and ways to support and develop them", in addition to the developments in the regional situation.
Reuters reported a source as saying that the meeting lasted an hour and discussed "Qatar's future as a mediator in the region and defense cooperation" following the Israeli aggression on Doha.
During a speech at the Security Council on Thursday, the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that his country would continue its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts without hesitation, but emphasized at the same time that his country "will not tolerate any infringement on its sovereignty and reserves the right to respond to the Israeli aggression".
They also met with US Vice President Jay D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington.
During the meeting, Vice President Donald Trump affirmed his solidarity with the State of Qatar, indicating that diplomatic solutions are sufficient to resolve disputes in the region; according to a statement from the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
He also expressed his appreciation for the tireless efforts made by Qatar in mediation and its effective role in establishing peace in the region, stressing that the State of Qatar is a reliable strategic ally of the United States.
For his part, the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that his country would take all necessary measures to protect its security and maintain its sovereignty in the face of the Israeli attack.
He expressed his country’s appreciation for its close partnership with the United States, and support for Qatar's sovereignty and its efforts to achieve peace in the region.
The meeting also reviewed the close strategic relations between Qatar and Washington and ways to support and develop them, and discussed the developments in the regional situation.
Israeli occupation forces had launched an attack on Doha Tuesday in an attempt to assassinate Hamas leaders, but the movement announced that its leaders and negotiating delegation had survived.
