"Neuralink" Owned by Musk: Brain Chips Implanted in 12 People
SadaNews - Neuralink, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, announced that brain chips manufactured by the company have been implanted in 12 individuals around the world.
This represents an increase from the previous announcement made in June, when its partner, the Barrow Neurological Institute, stated that chips had been implanted in seven individuals with severe paralysis who are now using them to control digital devices and physical tools through thought.
Neuralink stated on the platform "X" yesterday, Tuesday, that the patients have had their devices for 2000 days and have used them for over 15,000 hours.
In July, Neuralink announced its intention to launch a clinical study in the UK to test its chips, in partnership with University College London Hospitals and Newcastle Hospitals.
The company secured $650 million in a funding round in June.
Human trials began in 2024 with the implantation of a chip in the brain after addressing safety concerns raised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which had initially denied Neuralink's request in 2022.
