A Controversial Step.. The Israeli Foreign Ministry Organizes a Celebration Day for its Employees in the West Bank
SadaNews - The Israeli Foreign Ministry is preparing to organize its first recreational day for its employees in the occupied West Bank, specifically within the "Mishor Adumim" industrial complex affiliated with the "Ma'ale Adumim" settlement, in celebration of the Hebrew New Year, according to what was reported by Haaretz newspaper on Tuesday.
The event, described as a "celebration of integration", will include musical and singing performances, Greek dancing, workshops for winemaking and drumming, spa treatments, gift distribution, and an official toast ceremony attended by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, his deputy Sharren Haskel, and the ministry's director-general Eden Bar Tal.
However, behind the celebratory atmosphere, there are rising voices within the ministry opposing the timing and location of the event. Several employees have expressed their discontent with holding the event in an occupied area amid tense political and security conditions, questioning: "Are there any political achievements worth celebrating?".
A source in the ministry revealed to the newspaper that participation rates may not exceed 20%, indicating that some employees feel unsafe reaching the site in their private vehicles, despite the ministry providing buses from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Modiin.
For its part, the ministry justified the choice of location as based on results from a central tender, asserting that the aim is to enhance ties among employees. It also announced the closure of most of its units during the day of the event, with public reception suspended.
The event comes in the context of controversial official statements recently issued by the ministry, which included an affirmation of the annexation of West Bank lands to Israeli sovereignty, and an interpretation of the Balfour Declaration as encompassing all of Mandatory Palestine, which has provoked angry international and local reactions.
Between those who see the event as an opportunity for entertainment and integration, and those who consider it a political provocation at a sensitive time, the event remains a mirror of an internal division that reflects the complexities of the current Israeli scene.
