USA announces opposition to the oral resolution of the UN General Assembly on the two-state solution

SadaNews - The United States has announced its opposition to the oral resolution seeking to resume the high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue and to implement the two-state solution during the UN General Assembly's high-level week, as it reiterated its opposition to the conference itself and the resolution it adopted.

The U.S. State Department said in a statement received by SadaNews, "In addition, we were surprised and dismayed to see this proposal added to the General Assembly's agenda just yesterday afternoon, without any transparency regarding the specific text of the proposal, its impact on the budget, or the feasibility of UN support for it."

It added, "We do not believe that serious questions regarding the timing and manner of this proposal, raised by Israel in its procedural note, have been adequately addressed."

It confirmed that the rescheduling is a poorly timed publicity stunt that undermines serious diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

It emphasized that instead of promoting peace, the conference will extend the duration of the war, encourage Hamas, and undermine efforts to achieve peace.

It pointed out that the United States will not participate in this insult to the victims of October 7, but rather will continue to lead genuine efforts to end the fighting and achieve lasting peace.

It clarified that our focus will remain on serious diplomacy, not on pre-arranged conferences designed to create an appearance of relevance.

The U.S. State Department stated, "This latest step is just another counterproductive measure that only serves to encourage Hamas and prolong the war by undermining our diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the suffering in Gaza, freeing hostages, and pushing the Middle East toward a brighter and more prosperous future; for these reasons, the United States distances itself from the oral resolution."

The UN General Assembly decided to resume a high-level international conference on the "two-state solution" on September 22, reviving a process that was suspended this summer.

The Assembly adopted an oral resolution proposed by Saudi Arabia regarding the resumption of the high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.
