German Chancellor Concerned About Europe's Role in the World
SadaNews - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his concern about Europe's role in the world.
In an interview with the party's channel "CDU TV", scheduled to air this morning (Friday), he said: "What concerns me, and I admit it also worries me, is that we Europeans are currently not playing the role we wish to play in the world, a role we need to fulfill to adequately protect our interests," as reported by the "German News Agency".
The chancellor cited diplomacy related to Ukraine as an example, stating: "We are currently not in a position to exert enough pressure on Putin to end this war... We are relying on American assistance," adding that at the same time, countries like China, India, and Brazil are forming new partnerships with Russia.
However, Merz believes that Europe is currently returning to a new unity, saying: "This fundamentally depends on how much interest the German government has in it. Specifically, in this case, it depends on how interested the chancellor is... This is not an exaggeration of self-importance; it is the role expected of us. And I try to live up to these expectations because they benefit us as well."
