Except for America... All Security Council Members Condemn Famine in Gaza and Call for Ceasefire

Sada News - All members of the United Nations Security Council, except for the United States, announced that the famine in Gaza is a "man-made crisis," warning that the use of starvation as a weapon of war is prohibited under international humanitarian law, according to Reuters.

In a joint statement, the fourteen council members called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages held by "Hamas" and other groups, a significant increase in aid throughout Gaza, and for Israel to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on the delivery of aid.

They expressed their dismay and concern about the occurrence of famine in Gaza, affirming their confidence in the work of the food security classification system, and that international humanitarian law prohibits the use of starvation as a weapon.

The statement called for an immediate and unconditional truce in Gaza and the release of hostages, urging Israel to immediately retract its decision to expand its operation in Gaza.

For his part, the Palestinian representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, stated that the violence of Israeli settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is "growing more brutal by the day," warning that Israel is working to expand its settlements in illegal ways aimed at "suffocating the Palestinian people and destroying the two-state solution."

Mansour called, in a briefing before the Security Council, for the international community to exert "real pressure" to ensure humanitarian aid reaches the Gaza Strip.
