Alcaraz Sparks Controversy with His New Haircut at the US Open and Reveals the Reason
Sada News - Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz appeared in his first men's singles match at the US Open with a new look, sporting a "shaved head".
Carlos Alcaraz revealed that his new short haircut, which he debuted at the US Open, was the result of his brother's mishandling of the clippers when he wanted to quickly cut his hair before the tournament.
Alcaraz's short hair became the center of attention on the second day of the tournament held at Flushing Meadows on Monday, as the second-seeded Spanish player easily advanced to the second round by defeating Reilly Opelka 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
The 22-year-old player told reporters: "I felt my hair was getting long, and before the tournament, I really wanted to cut it. Suddenly, my brother mishandled the clippers, and there was no solution but to shave it all off. Honestly, I don't think it looks bad."
Victor Martinez, Alcaraz's hairstylist, traveled from Spain to Paris earlier this year to give him a more stylish haircut during the French Open, but he said that New York is too far to repeat that process.
The French Open champion added that his new look has sparked mixed opinions, saying, "Some people love it, while others don't. Honestly, I laugh at people's reactions; that's the reality. I can't do anything else now, so I just laugh at everything they say about my hair."
Alcaraz mentioned that he is not sure if his new sleek hairstyle makes him faster on the court, but he said it will all be over in a few days due to how quickly his hair grows.
He said, "Every time I cut my hair, the new style disappears after two or three days. In three days, you'll see another hairstyle."
Among the critics of Alcaraz's new haircut was American player Frances Tiafoe, ranked 17th in the world, who described it as "terrible," even though his hair is also short.
Alcaraz laughed and said, "Frances is lying. Did he come here to say it's terrible? I know he's lying; I know he loves my haircut. He told me so."
