Government Operations Room Calls for Effective International Action to Halt Famine in Gaza
SadaNews - The government and the Government Operations Room for Emergency Interventions in the southern governorates confirmed that the report from the United Nations Famine Review Committee (FRC) regarding the official entry of the Gaza governorate into a state of complete famine – phase five according to the IPC classification – reflects the unprecedented humanitarian disaster faced by our people in the Gaza Strip.
This statement comes as a confirmation of what Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa announced on May 7, 2025, when he stated at a press conference attended by all partners from international and UN organizations, civil society representatives, and the private sector, that the Gaza Strip has indeed entered a state of famine due to the ongoing Israeli siege, which prevents the entry of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid.
What our people are facing today, especially children and the elderly, is a direct result of a systematic policy adopted by the occupation forces over more than 600 days of suffocating siege, where starvation has been used as a weapon of war for the extermination of civilians and depriving them of the simplest elements of life by closing crossings and tightening restrictions on water and sanitation, as well as militarizing humanitarian aid and turning it into tools of pressure and mass death.
The government and the Government Operations Room warned of the rapid spread of lethal hunger and malnutrition across all governorates of the sector, urging the international community and free people of the world to take urgent action to stop the policy of starvation and genocide against our people and to pressure Israel to open all crossings and ensure safe humanitarian corridors to allow sufficient amounts of food, medicine, and relief to enter.
The government called on the United Nations Security Council, unions, parliaments, and civil society organizations around the world to exert the utmost pressure on their governments to stop supporting the occupation and impose real punitive measures against it.
The government emphasized its statement on the necessity of unity in stance and collective action to save what remains of life in the Gaza Strip, raising the voice loudly to end the genocide and starvation war against our steadfast people.
