Javier Bardem Compares Occupation Crimes to Scenes from Schindler’s List
SadaNews - The Oscar-winning Spanish artist Javier Bardem launched an attack on the Israeli occupying army after posting a video showing a sniper shooting a Palestinian in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a Nazi army, which sparked a wave of controversy.
In detail, Javier Bardem shared a video showing a sniper shooting at a Palestinian, accompanying it with a message in both English and Spanish, where he compared the video to a scene from the 1993 film Schindler's List, which is set during World War II.
The Spanish artist stated: "The Israeli army is Nazi; do you remember Amon Göth in Schindler's List, the sadistic SS officer who shot prisoners from his balcony just for fun and entertainment? He embodied the simplicity of evil and the impunity of cruelty within a repressive military apparatus."
Javier Bardem considered that this logic is what the Israeli forces apply, saying: "Today, the same terrorist logic and dehumanization is what the Israeli forces implement against the Palestinian people."
A large number of fans of the Oscar-winning artist interacted, with many praising his bravery in speaking out, with some comments reading: "This video has opened my eyes for many years. Thank you for sharing it," "And people are still afraid to speak out against it... how?" and "You are a great source of inspiration. Thank you for speaking out while most in your field choose silence."
This was not the first time Javier Bardem has spoken about the situation in Gaza. Last July, during an appearance on The View, he surprised the audience by discussing the humanitarian conditions in the area.
He continued: "It is time to draw a line so that elected officials know we are the voice of the people and they must listen to us," considering that Europe and the United States provide immunity to Israel to continue its attacks on the Gaza Strip, describing this as egregious negligence at the international level.
In a controversial scene, the program cut to a commercial break during his talk about the situation in Gaza, especially after he began discussing the yellow solidarity ribbons that Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines wore for the hostages held in Gaza.
The Spanish artist emphasized that he cannot express the pain he feels from watching children die, continuing: "I see the ribbons; of course, the hostages must return, but the situation in Gaza has reached a point where I cannot express the pain I feel watching images of hungry children dying."
He affirmed his agreement with human rights experts who described the situation as genocide, saying: "Yes, I see it as genocide. Why? Because Israel is carrying out these acts with complete impunity, and with no response from governments, along with U.S. support in money and weapons and Europe’s silence, all this has created a non-accountable environment. If we do nothing now, we will witness the continuation of this tragedy.
He concluded his speech by stating: "Most importantly, let us not lose our humanity... and let us condemn those who deserve to be condemned, at a time when the truth must be told." This was despite attempts by show host Whoopi Goldberg to transition to a commercial break.
It is worth noting that a UN body responsible for monitoring food security announced today, August 22, that a famine has officially occurred in Gaza for the first time, indicating that over 1.5 million are suffering from malnutrition or facing the risk of starvation, marking the first time a famine has been announced outside Africa.
